Laser Treatment for Hair Removal Keywords, Plus Wood Therapy Aftercare: What to Do in the First 72 Hours
By Esthetic Style Spa | July 1, 2026 | Apollo Beach, FL

The most important rule after Wood Therapy is simple: keep the treated area cool and hydrated for the first 24 to 72 hours, and skip heat, heavy sweating, and sun. Wood Therapy is a hands-on body sculpting technique using specialized wooden tools, so your tissues need a short “calm down” window to keep your results looking smooth. And in Apollo Beach, our hot, humid weather can make that window feel harder if you’re itching to get back outside.
Quick reminder: temporary redness, tenderness, and mild bruising can happen. We’ll talk you through what’s normal and what isn’t before you leave.
0 to 24 hours after Wood Therapy: cooling, water, and no heat
Right after your session, we generally recommend you treat the area like it’s a little “worked.” That means you’ll do better with cooling, calm movement, and hydration, not intense activity.
Do this in the first day
- Drink extra water. Wood Therapy supports circulation and lymphatic movement, and hydration helps that process along.
- Take light walks. A gentle stroll is usually perfect. Save the “sweat session” for later.
- Wear loose, breathable clothing like cotton or linen. In Apollo Beach humidity, tight leggings can trap heat and rub tender spots.
Avoid these for 24 hours (sometimes 48)
- Hot showers, hot baths, saunas, and steam rooms. Heat can increase redness and swelling.
- Intense workouts, especially anything that spikes sweating in the treated area.
- Alcohol and very salty meals. Both tend to increase water retention and puffiness.
- Direct sun or tanning on treated skin.
- Ocean swims and pools for at least 24 to 48 hours. If you’re planning a waterfront day in Apollo Beach, it’s better to delay swimming for 48 hours.
Why we’re a little strict about heat: Wood Therapy is manual sculpting. When you add heat and heavy sweat too soon, you can stir up extra inflammation and feel more tender than you need to.
24 to 72 hours: easing back in without losing your result
Most people feel back to normal quickly, but this is where smart choices matter. Your body is still processing the tissue work, and your skin can still be a little reactive.
What’s usually okay
- Gentle activity and light stretching.
- A normal shower, as long as you keep the water warm, not hot, and you don’t scrub the area.
- Hydrating meals and steady water intake through the day.
What we’d still hold off on
- Hard training sessions that leave you drenched.
- Sun exposure on the treated area. If you’re outdoors in Tampa Bay sun, cover the area with clothing.
- Swimming in saltwater or chlorinated pools until at least 48 hours if your skin is still red or sensitive.

The first week: keep things smooth, not scrubbed
In the first week, your goal is to support circulation and keep the skin calm. Wood Therapy works on stubborn areas by manually working the tissue, so you don’t want to “fight” that with harsh products or aggressive exfoliation.
Skip exfoliants for 3 to 5 days. That includes strong scrubs and acids on the treated area. If you’re not sure if a product counts, send us a photo of the ingredient list and we’ll tell you.
Watch heat exposure. Apollo Beach summers are no joke. If you’re doing long outdoor days, keep treated areas covered and choose cooler times of day when you can.
Stick with steady hydration. People often want quick contouring before beach plans. Water, light movement, and consistent aftercare usually beat “cramming” workouts into day two.
If you’re planning a full body contouring plan, our team has been doing this work in the community for 24 years. That experience shows up most in the small things, like keeping your schedule realistic so you don’t feel sore right before an event.
If you want the bigger picture, we laid it out in our body contouring guide for Apollo Beach.
Aftercare products we like (and what we don’t)
Keep products simple for a few days. After 24 hours, a gentle, fragrance-free moisturizer is usually your best friend. If you’re prone to sensitivity, fewer ingredients tends to work better.
Use
- Fragrance-free moisturizer after 24 hours.
- Mild, non-scrubby body wash.
- Cool compresses if you feel warm or puffy.
Avoid for 3 to 5 days
- Strong exfoliants and body scrubs.
- Heavily fragranced body oils on freshly treated skin.
- Anything that stings on contact. If it stings, wash it off and tell us.
A quick note on compression: Some people ask about compression garments. We only recommend that if your therapist specifically told you to. If you’re unsure, let us know what you have at home and we’ll guide you.
What’s normal after Wood Therapy, and when we want to hear from you
Normal usually looks like mild redness, tenderness, and occasional bruising. Those signs often fade over a few days, depending on how your body responds and how aggressively the area was worked.
We want you to reach out if swelling is severe or persistent, pain is getting worse instead of better, you notice signs of infection, or you develop a fever. Don’t “wait it out” if something feels off. We serve Apollo Beach and nearby Tampa Bay communities, so if you’re local, we can often talk through it quickly and decide if you should pop in for a brief check.
“They made me feel comfortable and answered all my questions.”
